About Us
Our Story
Coyote Run Ranch is a first generation, family owned and operated bison ranch in Northeast Ohio. Owned by Nick and Kristin George, the 130 acre farm houses more than just bison: miniature donkeys, chickens, horses and cattle dogs also call the ranch home. Nick grew up competing in rodeo events around the country and had a lifelong dream of becoming a cattle farmer. Kristin grew up breeding, raising and showing Arabian and Saddlebred show horses. The couple moved to the farm in 2018 and began dreaming of ways to create a farm-based business that would allow them to leave their 9-to-5 jobs. Nick became enamored with the idea of raising bison and the duo hit the road to learn all they could about raising the extra-large bovines.
They traveled across Ohio to speak with bison farmers and tour their facilities; they joined the National Bison Association and the Eastern Bison Association to learn about support systems and where to go with questions; and they learned all they could about the health benefits of this incredible meat – and they ate as much bison meat as they could, every chance they got!
Coyote Run Ranch welcomed their first batch of calves in February 2022, added a breeding bull and heifers later that spring, and have built a herd from a collection of animals coming from South Dakota, Minnesota, Michigan and Ohio. Their first calf crop arrived in the spring of 2023 and meat bearing the Coyote Run Ranch label hit stores that year as well. Nick and Kristin look forward to many more bison adventures in their futures as they build their herd and business, and introduce the delicious and nutritious benefits of bison meat to their community.
Conservation & Sustainability
Owners Nick and Kristin George are dedicated to responsibly and ethically raising bison with the most humane handling practices possible. They utilize rotational grazing to ensure fields are not overgrazed and to discourage nutrient runoff. This careful attention to the quality of grass ensures that their bison always have abundant grazing. In addition, the couple grows their own hay to guarantee they are offering the highest-quality forage to the animals in their care during the winter months. Nick and Kristin work closely with the local NRCS (National Resources Conservation Service) and the Eastern Ohio Grazing Council to increase the overall effectiveness of their bison-keeping practices, improve water, soil and air quality, and create and improve wildlife habitat on the farm.
